The Service aérien gouvernemental (SAG) participates in the fight against forest fires in Quebec, in Canada under a Canada-wide agreement and elsewhere in the world according to the needs of various government agencies. It conducts emergency aerial interventions in collaboration with the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU). SOPFEU is a private organization responsible for the prevention, detection and suppression of forest fires throughout Quebec.
Each year, SOPFEU uses the 14 SAG air tankers, eight CL-415s, two CL-215Ts and four CL-215Ps, to fight some 600 forest fires in Quebec and elsewhere. On average, these interventions total 2,000 flight hours annually, 12,000 drops totalling more than 65 mega liters of water.
