For the first time in the region, the US Air Force will present its spectacular F-35 demonstration team on September 6, 7 and 8, 2019. The F-35 Lightning II (F-35 Joint Strike Fighter or F-35 JSF) is a fifth generation multi-purpose aircraft in development since 1996 by the manufacturer Lockheed Martin, with Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems as main partners. It was named in honour of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, an American WWII aircraft, and also the English Electric Lightning.

Following several years of training in the United States, the pilots are ready to show their prowess to the public. The demonstration team will be going to Bagotville in June, for what will be their first appearance in Canada before coming to Gatineau in September.

As will be seen, these fighter planes are very loud, fast and modern, and are at the cutting edge of aviation technology. “It’s like a flying computer,” says Michel Côté, our Director, Aircraft Operations. The pilot is equipped with a helmet that enables very wide peripheral vision. The commands are automated via a touch screen. ”
