The Silver Spitfire is confirmed! The Silver Spitfire, a British treasure, will be at the same show as the Red Arrows on August 13th. An emblem of freedom around the world, the Spitfire embodies the pinnacle of aerospace engineering and design.
“The Spitfire represented a very important aircraft in the history of the RAF and Great Britain, especially during the Second World War and the Battle of Britain in 1940. So with the visit of the RAF Red Arrows we made the choice to bring these Spitfires in at the same time”, said Michel Côté, Director of Aircraft Operations for Aero Gatineau-Ottawa.
On August 5, two bold pilots will embark on an expedition around the world in the Silver Spitfire, an aircraft that changed the course of history. Their stops will be in the many countries that owe their freedom, at least in part, to this iconic aircraft.
On August 13, the Silver Spitfire will make a stop in Gatineau to highlight the British nation’s legacy of engineering excellence. This iconic single-engine aircraft commemorates a generation of intrepid aviators ready to withstand oppression and make the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of freedom.
Joining the Silver Spitfire will be the Roseland Spitfire from Vintage Wings of Canada – this award-winning restoration is a beautiful example of the type and will be sure to thrill everyone when it takes to the skies as part of this fantastic trio of aircraft. The third Spitfire comes to us from the Collings Foundation Spitfire, based in Massachusetts, BR601 is a combat veteran with 116 missions flown during the Second World War.
